MARK KELLY

Based in the Southern Highlands Mark Kelly is a fine art photographer who seeks out the minutia of details surrounding everyday life. Mark’s fascination with detail blends with his “previous” life as an Engineer where observation to detail in nature was key.

In this photographic series titled Elemental Mark has meticulously photographed layers, tones and patterns of rocks he discovered while in the Karijini National Park in Western Australia.

Located in the Pilbara region, these rocks are the oldest in Australia. The banded formations were formed some 2 billion years ago when iron was deposited on the sea floor as ancient life forms decomposed.

Documenting nature in this way Mark is interested purely in the discovery of nature as the medium. He turns this macro world into large scale photographic patterns. Mark’s explorations stretch from Perth to Tasmania documenting both nature and man-made structures which some may define as “ugly”. Mark captures macro images to manipulate them into his own man-made patterns.

Hypnotic, mystical and wondrous, Mark deliberately photographs from unusual angles in order to alter the image to depict his own imagination. In Elemental Mark has both morphed nature’s patterns into his own creations, and as seen in images like iRock, he highlights patterns created purely in nature – finding the best of both worlds.

“I want my images to make you feel something, see something.” Mark Kelly

BIOGRAPHY

As an accredited professional photographer Mark is a member of the Australian Institute of Professional Photography and is a Phase One Certified Professional.

Mark’s fine art photographs and presentation has come from collaborating for many years very closely with fine art printers Arthead. His photographic prints have been specially sealed using a specialised heat sealing process. The heat seal has UV inhibitors to protect the work and allow for display without a glass impediment in order to look “into” the prints without reflections and capture the wonderful painterly finish.
